Requests for H1B visas for classified or service professional appointments may not be made.
J1 visas may not be requested for classified or service professional appointments.

Immigration status/codes to be used on the HPR:
NA - US citizen
Student Visas
F1
- Student - allowed to work no more than 50% FTE (all positions combined) when classes in session; may be eligible to work more hours when classes not in session; contact International Student Office (ISO) to assure student is eligible to work before employmentF1 - OPT
- Optional Practical Training for either pre- or post- degree completion can be authorized for an F1 holder by the Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS); individual must receive an "Employment Authorization Document" (EAD) before the start date of employment; contact ISO to assure student is eligible to work before employment; takes up to three months for INS approvalJ1
- S Student -needs written authorization to work from the degree granting institution or sponsoring agency (e.g. IIE, Fulbright, CONACYT). For ASU sponsored students, ISO will provide work authorization; allowed to work no more than 50% FTE (all positions combined) when classes in session; may be eligible to work more hours when classes not in session; contact ISO to assure student is eligible to work before employmentJ1- AT
- Academic Training for either pre- or post- degree completion can be authorized for a J1 holder by his/her degree granting institution or sponsoring agency to work in an area related to the degree. Employment Visas
J1
- Exchange Visitor - allows 100% FTE employment and must be authorized through ASUs International Programs Office (IPO); employment periods allowed vary depending on type of work; individual must be outside the US to be eligible for this visaH1
- B - Temporary Worker - allows 100% FTE employment and must be obtained throughconsultation with/action by IPO
TN
- NAFTA - allows 100% FTE employment and must be renewed annually by the holder; obtained upon entry from the Canadian or Mexican border; Mexican citizens are also required to obtain a visa to enter the U.S. under this statusIP
- Permanent Resident/Immigrant - allows 100% FTE employment without restrictions in the United StatesContact International Programs Office (IPO) at 480-965-5965 for assistance/information about any of the employment visas
