Definition of EO/AA Codes Used on
EO/AA and Human Resources

ETHNIC CODES

N = AMERICAN INDIAN OR ALASKAN NATIVE:

A person having origins in any of the original peoples of North America and who maintains cultural identification through tribal affiliation or community recognition.

A = ASIAN OR PACIFIC ISLANDER:

A person having origins in any of the original peoples of the Far East, Indian subcontinent, Southeast Asia, or the Pacific Islands. This category includes, for example, China, Japan, Korea, the Philippine Islands, Samoa, and India.

B = BLACK, NOT HISPANIC ORIGIN:

A person having origins in any of the black racial groups of Africa who is not also of Hispanic origin.

H = HISPANIC:

A person of Mexican, Puerto Rican, Cuban, Central or South American or other Spanish culture or origin, regardless of race.

W = WHITE, NOT HISPANIC ORIGIN

A person having origins in any of the original peoples of Europe, North Africa, or the Middle East.

 

VETERAN CODES

M = OTHER PROTECTED VETERAN:

A person who served on active duty during a war or in a campaign or expedition for which a campaign badge has been authorized.

V = VIETNAM ERA VETERAN:

A person who served on active duty for a period of more than 180 days and was discharged or released therefrom with other than a dishonorable discharge, if A) any part of such active duty occurred (i) in the Republic of Vietnam between 2/28/61 and 5/7/75, or (ii) between 8/5/64 and 5/7/75 in all other cases or B) was discharged or released from active duty for a service-connected disability if any part of such active duty was performed as noted in (i) and (ii) above.

S = SPECIAL DISABLED VETERAN:

A veteran (A) who is entitled to compensation for a disability (i) rated at 30 percent or more, or (ii) rated at 10 or 20 percent in the case of a veteran who has been determined under Section 1506 of Title 38, U.S.C. to have a serious employment handicap or (B) a person who was discharged or released from active duty because of a service-connected disability.

G = RECENTLY SEPARATED VETERAN:

Any veteran who served on active duty in the U. S. military, ground, naval or air service during the one-year period beginning on the date of such veteran's
discharge or release from active duty.

GENDER CODES

M = Male

F = Female

DISABILITY CODES

H = Disabled

A physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities, a record of such impairment, or a perception of such impairment. Examples of impairments: asthma, tuberculosis, AIDS, cancer, angina, diabetes, hypertension, stutter, anxiety disorders, bipolar disorder, dyslexia, blindness or vision impairment, deafness or hearing impairment, and paralysis.
